Wardens' Notice 03/07 - 4 April 2007

Wardens Notice: The following addition to the FCO Travel advice has been made to take account of the recent outbreak of Bird Flu in the Kingdom.

“The Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) have confirmed that there has been an outbreak of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in the Wafra Al-Gamma in Al-Katief district, Eastern District (Ash Sharqiyah).  There have been no human infections or deaths reported.
The risk to humans from Avian Influenza is believed to be very low. As a precaution, you should avoid visiting live animal markets, poultry farms and other places where you may come into close contact with domestic, caged or wild birds; and ensure poultry and egg dishes are thoroughly cooked. You should read this advice in conjunction with the Avian and Pandemic Influenza Factsheet on the FCO website which gives more detailed advice and information.”
