Britain condemns attempt to Assassinate Mohammed bin Naif (02/09/2009)
The British government has condemned the attempted assassination of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Naif, the Saudi Deputy Minister of Interior in Jeddah on 27 August. The Foreign Secretary David Miliband has written to Prince Mohammed offering his personal support and that of the British government.
Commenting on these events the British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Sir William Patey said:
"Prince Mohammed and his father HRH Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz have led the Kingdom's response to the threat posed by terrorism. I continue to believe that the Saudi response has been amongst the most effective in the world. Al Qaeda targeted Prince Mohammed because they know how important he is in the fight against deviancy. At this time Britain stands side by side with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facing the cancer of terrorism."
