Prince Saud and the Ambassador discuss Climate Change (28/10/2009)
On 27 October HRH Prince Saud al Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the British Ambassador, Sir William Patey, discussed the issue of climate change at a meeting in Riyadh. Sir William handed Prince Saud a copy of a map produced by UK scientists of the global impact of a four degrees rise in temperature. The map demonstrated that such a rise would actually mean a six degree rise in the temperature in Saudi Arabia. Prince Saud welcomed the map and the research that had gone into it. He was quick to point out the impact that melting ice caps would have on the 70% of the world's population who live in coastal areas. HRH Prince Saud and Sir William, agreed to continue to work together in advance of December's Copenhagen Summit which will seek to establish a follow up framework to the Kyoto protocol.
