Role of Defence section

The Ministry of Defence

The Defence Section in the Embassy acts as local representative and liaison for the Ministry of Defence . The purpose of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and the Armed Forces, is to defend the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories, our people and interests, and act as a force for good by strengthening international peace and security. The Armed Forces are divided into three services:

Royal Navy

The Royal Navy is a unique combination of land, sea and air capabilities merged into a single, adaptable and dynamic force. It plays a major role in the UK’s affairs and its importance in delivering the Nation’s future expeditionary capability is clearly established in the Governments strategic thinking.

British Army

The British Army is becoming more flexible to cope with the range of new challenges it faces. Capability has been expanded by the creation of new types of combat units able to deploy anywhere in the world at short notice in support of Peace Support Operations, Humanitarian Aid and Counter Terrorism.

Royal Air Force

The Royal Air Force makes a vital contribution to the fulfillment of British security policy offering flexibility, mobility, combat power and utility across the full spectrum of conflict. Future equipment procurement is based on requirements to meet this contribution. In recent years, Royal Air Force personnel have been deployed on a broader range of tasks than at any time over the past 50 years.
